All of the melodies played on this recording are traditional folk tunes originating in Ireland, Scotland, England, & the Shetland Islands. Each one has a history and a story. Each one has a place in time. Some have to do with lost loved ones, while others have to do with young love. Some are memorials to people and places, while others reflect family relationships. Some are set in the summer or autumn, others in winter or spring. Many of these melodies are hundreds of years old and represent ancient, but universal emotions. The authors of these tunes have long since passed on. Due to the erosion of paper and memory most of these authors are now anonymous, but all of them carried deep emotions. They have left for us these simple but beautiful, timeless melodies.
Each arrangement on this recording is accompanied by the sounds of nature: waterfalls, rain, ocean waves, water lapping on the shore of a lake, birds, and critters of the night. These sounds are carefully placed so as to give the listener an increased sense of peace and soothing relaxation. Whenever possible, listen to this recording in a setting where you can relax and be free from the noise of the modern world. As you listen, allow your thoughts to create images of nature. Imagine beautiful, peaceful places. Let this music take you wherever you desire. If you wish, let the music carry you into a restful slumber.
